The Outer Hebrides is Britain’s most unspoiled and perfect slice of paradise

The Outer Hebrides is Britain’s most unspoiled and perfect slice of paradise

Don’t take my word for it, have a read of this article in the Mirror by Brian Hancill.

During his visit to the Islands he spoke with Fiddler Jane Hepburn who mentioned the Segway Tours in her round up of activities locally.

Many thanks for the mention!

Women’s Cancer Research 5K Challenge

This event, in its seventh year, is the biggest sporting participation event in the Western Isles.

The Segways were put to good use in setting the pace for the lead runners and then later on for those walking the course. The Segways dressed in pink candy stripes were perfect for the day, although Seamus and Findlay couldn’t be convinced to wear pink onesies… maybe for next year’s event!

Introducing the Boma7 – Increasing access for all

The Stornoway Trust and a team of local volunteers hosted a visit from Molten Rock and their Boma7 at Cuddy Point in the Castle Grounds.

The Boma7 is an all-terrain motorised wheelchair that opens up access to those with limited mobility to areas unreachable by traditional wheelchairs. The manufacturers are brought a demonstration model to the islands to allow organisations and individuals to see it in action and to try it out first hand.

Chris Swift, Director and Founder of Molten Rock said “The Boma is greatly suited to exploring the wild and beautiful landscape found on Lewis and I’m very excited to be visiting.”

Local coordinator Jenny Allenby has been working with various groups including the Multiple Sclerosis Society Western Isles Branch, Neurological Equal Rights Volunteers Eilean Siar (N.E.R.V.E.S.), Macaulay College and Neurological Voices, to gauge interest and participation. Jenny has a personal connection with the project following a friend’s visit to the Islands with a Boma in 2012 and seeing first hand how revolutionary it can be in providing access to the Islands’ beautiful beaches and beyond.

Iain Maciver, the Stornoway Trust Factor said “Making the Castle Grounds accessible to as many people as possible is important to the Trust.” He continues, “We welcome this visit and will participate in the discussions around how to secure a Boma7 for use on the Islands if sufficient interest is shown.”

Initial plans are to work with local organisations and small businesses such as us at Segway Hebrides in providing booking and administration services for both locals and visitors to the Islands.

For more information please contact Jenny Allenby at jenny.allenby@hotmail.com.

Mo Thompson tells Embrace Scotland why he loves the Hebrides

Mo Thomson, a talented photographer and film maker is a regular visitor to the Outer Hebrides. In his interview with Embrace Scotland he talks about why he loves this part of the world and how it inspires his work.

“Thousands and thousands of shells were sitting on top of wind blasted mounds of sand, like little wind sculptures. It was quite surreal, but beautiful to see the wind making little pieces of art.”

In response to the question “What has been your best discovery on Lewis or Harris?” Mo responds:
“On Lewis, Segway Hebrides at Stornoway – I really recommend giving them a try for an hour of fun. On Harris, Croft 36 at Northton for superb local fresh food and home baked bread.”
Thanks for the mention Mo and we’re pleased you enjoyed your Segway experience with us.

Festive atmosphere…

The snow really added something to our outing with Segway Santa last week. Among our favourite photos are this one taken with the local constabulary who were out keeping everyone safe and while joining in with the fun.
